Old Row, A True Southern Brand

Many a brand has attempted to make their mark in the consumer marketplace we all take part in everyday, but a very small number become successful, and not all of them mean to do it. Old Row is one of those brands, as they originated as a college based social media account that became so popular, they had no other choice then to make something of this booming popularity and rightfully so. They attracted much of their audience through their relatively edgy posts, if interpreted by the wrong eyes or overly analyzed, and grew from there with continued activity on multiple social media platforms. With a growing sensitivity towards anything and everything said by individuals with opposing ideologies, it can be difficult to determine where the "too offensive line" is drawn and where the safe circle lies, where one can speak their mind without being ridiculed by others for their viewpoints. Old Row's circle stretches farther than most, in fact it seems as though it has a never ending circumference, for they speak, post and host in unapologetic, refreshing ways and it gives the outlying audience a taste of what southern college life is truly like if done the right way: fun, fun, and of course fun. To best explain who they are, their roots if you will, you have to understand that they truly speak their minds without care of who it reaches or the way in which it reaches the receiving party, and this is not to say that they are totally insensitive, rather they let their opinions run free and acknowledge the fact that it shouldn't be taken seriously, like most things. They also stress the idea, whether intentionally or without thought, that if you want to take part in their events, look through their feeds and browse their merchandise, you have the freedom to do so, but if the ideas they portray offend you due to an opposing viewpoint or standing on a current event, then you have the same freedom to turn your gaze away. Old Row truly represents the foundation of what the United States was based upon: freedom. In a way, they are protecting and stressing our Constitutional rights described in the first amendment of the Bill of Rights, although I don't think their minds where in that space when the brand was born.

Now, stating all of this in regards to what their foundation as a brand is makes them sound intense and serious, but that's far from the truth. Their social media feeds are like normal college pages, posting about parties and random other things that may bring a smile to a face or two. The merchandise that they offer, which is quite extensive, is humorous in nature and reaches a large number of people who wish to express their beliefs and ideologies, or simply want to have a little fun added to their style, and possibly make a statement along the way. And lastly, the events that they host are what true college parties should look like, adding to the defended idea that Southern colleges do it better when it comes to tailgates, football games, festivals, you name it. Old Row's goal is to make college something that you can remember fondly, and not as a wasted bunch of money that you could have used for a less eventful adult life, where parties are scarce and the good times are transformed into only memories. Although their roots are grounded in Southern soil, their message reaches out to places beyond America's home country. With constant social media activity, a published "Guide To College", and a popular website with information about upcoming events that they are hosting, anyone can get a taste of what they do, and dip into Southern waters to see what they're missing. They try to make it your purpose to embrace your youth, enjoy the moment and care not about what the other guy is thinking, because that'll drag you down and waste the precious time you have here. Of course, much of what they do won't make the cut at other Universities, as rowdy parties, potentially offensive messages and other related behavior will be frowned upon by educational establishments that stress and prescribe intense practice and assignments to achieve desired success by aspiring students, but they aren't telling you to do it exactly like they do. All that they are attempting to get across is to loosen up a little, enjoy the opportunity you've been given and express yourself in any way that you want to, because at the end of the day you're still going to be you, and no one can take that away.
